ABOUT US
Clinically Minded Precepting was founded to provide meaningful, high-quality clinical mentorship for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students who want more than simply completing required clinical hours. Our focus is on helping future psychiatric providers develop the clinical confidence, diagnostic reasoning, and practical skills necessary to succeed in real-world psychiatric practice.
The program is led by Amy Romick, DNP, PMHNP-BC, AGNP-C, and Darius Opada, MSN, PMHNP-BC—experienced psychiatric clinicians dedicated to mentoring the next generation of nurse practitioners. Through structured preceptorship and guided clinical experience, students gain hands-on exposure to psychiatric assessment, differential diagnosis,
psychopharmacology, documentation, treatment planning, and the complex clinical decision-making that defines modern psychiatric care.
Students working with Clinically Minded Precepting develop the kind of clinical thinking that cannot be learned from textbooks alone. Our training emphasizes practical psychiatric skills, sound diagnostic reasoning, and thoughtful patient care across a variety of psychiatric practice settings.
For DNP students, we also provide mentorship and guidance throughout the scholarly project process. This includes support navigating the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process, developing clinically relevant project ideas, and executing evidence-based clinical improvement projects that align with real-world practice.
In addition to clinical precepting, we offer PMHNP board exam preparation and individualized mentoring designed to help students successfully transition from graduate education to independent psychiatric practice.
Our mission is simple: to train the next generation of psychiatric nurse practitioners to practice with confidence, sound clinical judgment, and compassion.
