Clinical Rotation Information

Gain Real-World Psychiatric Experience and Confidence

Students receive hands-on exposure to outpatient psychiatry while developing the assessment, diagnostic, treatment planning, psychopharmacology, and documentation skills needed to succeed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Professional Expectations
Clinical rotations are designed for adult learners and future colleagues. Students are expected to take ownership of their learning experience and complete all required clinical hours.
While I do not micromanage students, I do expect professionalism, accountability, and active engagement throughout the rotation. Students are responsible for tracking and completing their required clinical hours and communicating proactively regarding scheduling needs.
For virtual clinical experiences:
-
Cameras must remain on during Zoom sessions unless otherwise discussed in advance.
-
Students should participate actively in case discussions, patient presentations, and debriefings.
-
Students are expected to arrive on time and be prepared for the clinical day.
My teaching style is supportive, collaborative, and focused on helping students develop confidence and clinical independence. I provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities for growth while encouraging students to think critically and formulate their own assessments and treatment recommendations.
Students who are self-motivated, engaged, and eager to learn tend to thrive in this clinical environment. This rotation is ideal for students who want to actively participate, strengthen their clinical reasoning skills, and gain meaningful hands-on experience that will prepare them for independent PMHNP practice.
